Right before I started down this path of abstract painting. I was at a home furnishing store in NYC with my mom. We were waiting for an elevator & I looked up and noticed the walls. It was an old building & instead of sanding down & repainting over the many layers of paint that had built up over time they left it & It was beautiful! I loved the history that existed in that corner by the elevator. I took a picture of it & remember thinking to myself that it sure would be a beautiful painting. Rustic yet so simple and sophisticated. The small areas of color surrounded by layers of rich neutrals created such an impactful experience.

Paesano means rustic. I worked on building layers of beautiful neutrals complimented by small important areas of deep rust and burgundy in an effort to create a similar experience to that stunning wall I saw so many years ago.
